Are we back to "routine" yet? [Curiously Connected #17]

Between the school schedules, calendar managing, new apps, and countless emails - I haven't quite settled into anything resembling routine yet - even though we're over a month in. My own expecations of that word carry the weight of productivity AND presence. An expectation I fall short of when life isn't routine.

We can get caught up in this ideal of checking off "healthy habits" and feeling accomplished. While at my core, I believe long term, whole person health isn’t about doing all the “right” things perfectly. It’s about learning to listen, tuning in to what we need, and finding ways to care for our whole selves.

To "decmopose" that ideal, I'm shifting my focus to rituals designed for life as it is right now. An intentional choice to connect, rather than a box to check.

Routine: “I need to work out.”
Possible ritual: “What movement will best serve my body today?”

Routine: “I need to eat breakfast.”
Possible ritual: “How will I nourish myself to start my day?”

Same action. Different connection.

At my workshop last month, I challenged us all to consider what a ritual would feel like as we move towards health and fitness goals. Rather than waiting for habit and routine to settle and feel productive, how can we meet ourselves, with curiosity and intention, in a ritual that connects?

The newsletter is simple this month. Intentional.

And a connection-focused stretch session to offer you movement.

Nothing complicated. Nothing perfect.

Just an opportunity to pause, connect, and consider:
What ritual can I create that helps me care for my whole self?

Take a step towards your own habit or ritual as you listen to the workshop:

Monarch butterfly on purple flowers with a clear blue sky.

Tears in my eyes, I laid face down on the treatment table for my physical therapist to work on my neck and shoulder. Almost two weeks post neck surgery and I wasn’t feeling much better - in fact I felt worse. My hand still wasn’t functioning, I wasn’t sure how to lay down to sleep, and I feared the surgery wasn’t going to resolve my pain. As she began our normal treatment process, she spoke gently, but firm. “You are not fragile.”And the tears began to fall. Fragile. Fearful. Helpless.She...
