End of Year Challenge Week 1: Cervical Mobility

Mobility & Balance

Week 1

Welcome to your End of Year Challenge! I am so excited to learn and grow stronger together for the next 10 weeks as we pursue mobility and balance that will serve our long term health and fitness.

This week, we have 3 exercises for our cervical spine. Our neck is one of the habitual places we lose mobility based on our lifestyle. Cell phones, computers, and general forward head posture contribute to loss of mobility in our cervial spine.

Your neck mobility directly impacts your balance. There are sensory receptors in your neck muscles and ligaments that impact your brain's understanding of where your head is in space. Maintaining mobility in your cervical spine is essential!

Let's move!

Let me know where you notice your neck posture throughout your day!

Tears in my eyes, I laid face down on the treatment table for my physical therapist to work on my neck and shoulder. Almost two weeks post neck surgery and I wasn’t feeling much better - in fact I felt worse. My hand still wasn’t functioning, I wasn’t sure how to lay down to sleep, and I feared the surgery wasn’t going to resolve my pain. As she began our normal treatment process, she spoke gently, but firm. “You are not fragile.”And the tears began to fall. Fragile. Fearful. Helpless.She...
